A conveyor belt is a transport device that transfers goods between two points within production with an endless belt. We can transport horizontally or at an angle. The belt for these conveyors can run continuously or occasionally.
How do conveyor belts work?
The technology for transfer of materials is based on a conveyor belt that is usually set between two pulleys. Its basic components, in addition to an endless belt, are:
- structural frames, pulleys or sliding lining on which the belt is installed, and the tensioning and drive system.
The pulley, as the basic element of the drive system, transmits the peripheral force to the belt by means of friction. In order to create the conditions for the transfer of the circumferential force by friction, the belt should be tightened, which is achieved by the tensioning part of the conveyor
Use
The conveyor belt is suitable for wide use. Today, it is used in almost all industries around the world. It provides rational transportation of large volumes of bulk and cargo loads over long and short distances.
Advantages:
- easy installation in a small space, the possibility of transporting over long distances
- small specific energy consumption
- continuous transfer of goods
- relatively low noise levels compared to other types of conveyors
- low maintenance costs
Disadvantages:
- the inclination is limited by friction between the belt and the load, therefore its use is not possible everywhere
- standard belts are sensitive to chemical effects, high temperatures and disturbances caused by bonding materials to drums and rollers
- dusting of the conveyor due to certain types of goods causes bad sealing of bearings, which results in higher maintenance costs
- when transporting coarse materials with sharp edges, the belt is easily damaged, which is unpleasant due to the high price of the belt
